E.P.I. Doctrinal Statement of Beliefs
The Expository Preaching Institute is a cross-denominational organization. The following doctrinal statement addresses primary issues of theology (God), Scripture, salvation, and other doctrines that we as an organization of believers affirm without reservation:
E.P.I. believes that the Holy Bible is the written special revelation of God, and contains sixty-six books, canonized, known as Holy Scripture and thus constitute the plenary Word of God.
E.P.I. believes and upholds absolutely without reservation the God-breathed (inspired) inerrancy and infallibility of the Holy Scriptures transmitted to us by holy men through the inspiration of God the Holy Spirit in its original autographs (2 Tim 3:15; 2 Pet 1:20–21).
E.P.I. believes that God’s Word is the only source of truth that infallibly reveals the trinitarian Godhead — God the Father, God the Son (our Lord Jesus Christ), and God the Holy Spirit — equal in substance, power, and glory and creator of the universe. God’s Word is the revealed will of this God and contains the plan of redemption and purposes concerning His divine will.
E.P.I. believes the early church’s interpretation of Holy Scripture defining the Godhead as explicated in the Nicene Creed (325 / 381 A.D.). We believe and uphold the Apostles’ Creed, as did the early church, concerning our triune God. We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in Christ (Eph 4:4–6).
E.P.I. believes God’s Word is completely sufficient for all things pertaining to life and godliness and, most importantly, salvation for lost sinners (2 Tim 3:15–16). We believe that the Bible is a closed canon that constitutes the only infallible rule of faith and practice (Rev 22:18–20).
E.P.I. believes that the act of salvation is monergistic (originating from God) and granted by grace to lost sinners. We believe that man is a sinner, both by nature and by his own choice, and can be brought into God’s favor only by God’s provision in Christ as applied by the Holy Spirit. We believe that for the salvation of lost and sinful men, regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential. However, according to Holy Scripture, sinners synergistically (via a work of God and man) must believe and repent of their sins, and their lives must conform to godliness through the process of sanctification (Eph 2:8; Phil 2:12–13). Salvation of lost sinners can only be accomplished by the grace of God alone by the power of His Spirit, apart from any human merit, through faith alone in the completed and finished work of the second person of the Trinity, the Lord Jesus Christ alone.
E.P.I. believes in the imminent return of the Lord Jesus Christ and the resurrection of both the saved and lost: They who are saved unto the resurrection of life and they who are lost unto the resurrection of damnation.
